Pranab Mukherjee’s Rs. 6 crore Mercedes S 600 Pullman

 Having elected to the Presidential post, Pranab Mukherjee will now change his mode of transport-from his favourite bullet-proof Ambassador to the posh Mercedes Benz S600L 'Pullman' limousine.The cost of the car is estimated to be around Rs 6 crore.

 The President of India travels in a black Mercedes Benz S600 (W221) Pullman Guard. It's a custom-built, heavily armored limousine which meets the requirements of the highest protection class VR6/VR7.

 The armor is designed to protect against military rifle shots. It also offers resistance against fragments from hand grenades and explosives.

 The president's motorcade also consists of the former presidential car, a black Mercedes-Benz W140 armoured limousine, which is now being used as a spare vehicle.

 The ‘Pullman’ made it to the Rashtrapati Bhavan during the tenure of Pratibha Patil and has a host of dynamic features which are essential for the secure travel of a top dignitary.

 High-Protection vehicles, engineered to the European B4 resistance level, resist large-calibre revolver ammunition and offer particularly good protection against the increasing threat of drug-related and violent street crime.

 Highest-Protection vehicles, engineered to resistance level B6/B7, provide effective protection against the threat posed by terrorist attacks. Their armour is designed to resist military-standard small-arms projectiles which have a velocity almost twice that of bullets fired from a revolver. They also offer protection against fragments from hand grenades and explosive charges.

 The Mercedes models in both protection categories have been developed in accordance with internationally recognised security standards and have successfully undergone both testing and certification by independent state organisations.

 It is powered by a twelve-cylinder bi-turbo engine with a displacement of 5513cc and an output of 517 horse power
